The Rural Institute, Amravati is a premier educational institution of Central India of Vidarbha region in Maharastra. Its founder President was the late Dr. Panjabrao alias Bhausaheb Deshmukh who established various schools, colleges, hostels and other teaching and technical institutions and devoted all his energy for strengthening and enlarging the activities of the Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati.

In 1956, the Rural institute, Amravati Diploma in Agriculture Science (English Medium) course established under the National Council for Rural Higher Education, Education Ministry, Govt. of India, New Delhi. Thereafter in 1976, it had been undertaken by Govt. of Maharashtra on 100% grant basis and affiliated to Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola.

Diploma in Live Stock Management and Dairy Production (Marathi Medium) affiliated to Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur was started successfully in 1986.

To reduce unemployment among youth by equipping them for suitable industrial, self & wage employment through well designed formal & non formal Vocational Education & Training programmes at Various institutes. A Minimum Competency Vocational (MCVC) like horticulture from agriculture field and electronics from technical field was started in 1993 under Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, Maharashtra State.
